Dental Implants Sydney, Crowns Nest & Bella Vista
Those who have lost one or more teeth will benefit from having a dental implant fitted, helping to restore both the appearance and functionality of your teeth. They do so by supporting your jawbone and maintaining the chewing force that’s placed on the jawbone. To be suitable for implants, your gum and oral health needs to be in excellent condition. If it isn’t, the pre-existing bacteria or infection can cause the dental implants to fail.
Dental implants are permanent fixtures that are implanted into the bone of your jaw. They can act as anchors for orthodontic treatments or, more commonly, used to support what’s known as a ‘prosthesis’. There are several types of dental prostheses available, including crowns, bridges and dentures.

At Oralux Dental, we will assess your suitability for implants and advise you on the best course of action. The treatment isn’t recommended for those who are under 18 due to the body needing to finish growing, which influences the final position of an implant.
The Process
A dental implant is made from pure medical-grade titanium materials. A biological process known as ‘osseointegration’ occurs as natural bone cells start to attach or grow around the implant body. Once the healing stabilizes, a prosthetic tooth can be attached to the implant via a connector, known as abutment, to create the desired outcome. The process relies heavily on your body’s acceptance of the implant, so to guarantee success, four key things need to be ensured:
Computer Guided Implant Surgery
At Oralux Dental, we use the latest technology to ensure your implants are inserted safely, effectively and accurately. By taking various measurements, photos and scans of our patient’s mouths and teeth, we can create a 3D replication that includes the soft tissues (gums and lips), and also the bone tissue that supports the teeth.
Once this is created, our highly experienced dentists use computer guided software to determine the best possible position and treatment options for our patients, which is safer and more accurate than determining it at the time of surgery. The planned position is then 3D printed on a surgical key template that fits the patient’s mouth at the time of the surgery. Where clinicians have usually relied on their experience alone, the computer guided technology allows for an accurate placement of the implant in the jawbone, protecting the surrounding important nerve structures to achieve optimal results.

Looking after Your Implants
Implants aren’t affected by sugar or other tooth rotting ingredients; however, there is still a need to remove plaque and keep the area clean to avoid degradation. It’s worth treating the implant with the same care as you do the rest of your mouth. Bone loss will occur at a similar rate to your other teeth, so maintaining regular appointments with your hygienist to keep your gums healthy is essential. You should also schedule regular check-ups with your dentist to ensure everything is in order and your implant is performing well.
Benefits
Dental implants can be life changing, with patients reporting a huge increase in their self-esteem and overall outlook on life post-treatment. Not only do they help patients regain their lost teeth, they also help restructure their mouths and bring back their smiles to their fullest potential.
Implants differ from dentures due to their permanence, with little to no risk of them falling out or causing any embarrassing incidents. The loss of teeth can be extremely distressing for a lot of people, so not only do implants help replace teeth for cosmetic reasons, they also restore people’s biting function – especially important for chewing food.
Risks
Due to the nature of dental implants, having them fitted is a surgical procedure. Just like all surgical procedures, there are inherited risks, which may include:
How Long Does a Dental Implant Last?
Dental implants are made of titanium and they are one of the few materials the body will accept as its own. This is why dental implants can last for a lifetime if looked after properly. Studies show the overall success rate of dental implants is above 90% – 98%. Hence why we at Oralux Dental will provide you with the best quality dental implant system to suit your oral health and ensure longevity.
