What Is The Cost Of Dental Implant?
Hi, it’s Dr Wendy here from Oralux Dental. I just saw a new patient, Steve from Bella Vista, for an implant consultation. Like many others, he was wondering why does implant cost so differently from places to places? So, I thought I would make a short video to share some information about the cost of having a dental implant.
The cost of a dental implant procedure can range from X to Y, and here are the factors that can impact the final price.
We want to know about the brand and the type of dental implant. There are many companies which make dental implant in the world. Some have been around longer than others. Because the implant lasts a very, very long time, we want to pick a company with a good track record so that we know it will still be here in 50 years time to provide the parts and the support to the implant when we need it.
Often, those big-brand companies have made implants for millions of patients and also backed up their products with research for more than 50 years. Hence, their prices usually are a little bit more than a new company that just popped up. So the brand of implant your dentist uses will impact the price.
The quality and quantity of the bone that receives the implant. If the quality of the bone is poor or insufficient, then you may need additional bone or soft tissue grafting to ensure that you get the adequate support for the long-term success of the implant. You may also need to consider the number of teeth that needs to be replaced. You do not need to replace every single missing tooth with an implant. Sometimes you only take four implants to replace a whole arch of missing teeth. So the quality of your bone and tissues will impact the price of your procedure.
You also need to consider the experience of the clinician. How much experience does this dentist have, how many implants have they placed, whether the person has done further special training, such as a Master Clinician Program in Implantology. Generally, the more experienced your surgeon, the higher the price, but it also gives you the peace of mind you are in good hands.
You also want to know who is making the prosthesis on top of the implant. Is it a lab from a third-world country, or by a dental technician in Australia? Local dental technicians will generally charge more than overseas labs due to experience and quality of material. But it also means your implant crown adheres to Australian standard regulations.
Last but not least, the aftercare you receive from the day you get your implant. We generally follow up our patient for at least 10 years after the implant is placed to make sure everything is stable and healthy.
I hope this has given you a better understanding of dental implant cost, and what contributes to differences. If you are considering dental implant treatment, as a Master Clinician in Implantology and past student from the prestigious Loma Linda University in the United States, I would love to look after you.
