What is Digital Smile Design?
Want to upgrade your smile but worried you might not be happy with the final result? Digital smile design could just be your answer!
Hi, I’m Dr Wendy Wang from Oralux Dental and today I’m going to share with you the latest technology in creating your perfect smile.
I was with our new patient Megan from Crows Nest the other day. She wants to improve her smile but is worried that she might not be 100% happy with the final results. So I suggested Digital Smile Design as the first step of her treatment. She has never heard of Digital Smile Design before, and after her session, she was amazed at what it could do. So I thought it is worthwhile making a video sharing with you what it is just in case you also want to upgrade your smile.
So digital smile design utilises a 3D scan of a patient’s mouth, as well as their facial features in terms of how they smile and how they talk. We take a record of all of these and migrate them into the digital smile design software. With this software, we can design the new smile, the new facial expression and where the new teeth are going to sit. We can then show the patient how the new smile is going to look like before they even commit to the treatment.
If I draw an analogy, this is a little bit like the 3D architectural design. Back in the old days, architects have to draw the dimensions and the specifications on a piece of paper. And yet it’s very difficult to explain the final results visually to the clients.
However, nowadays architects have the software they can use to show you a 3D view of the design of the house. You can even do a virtual walkthrough inside the house. So in dentistry, it is the same thing. With Digital Smile Design, we can show you the final result in 3D. How it will look like, the thickness of the tooth, and how they’re going to fit with your face.
So you can see, DSD is a great way to sure you are 100% happy with the final design of your smile before committing to the cosmetic dental treatments.
