3 Reasons Why Is It Important To Have Regular Dental Check-ups?
Hi, it’s Dr Wendy here from Oralux Dental. I just saw a new patient, Dave from Castle Hill, for an emergency appointment. At the end of the appointment, he asked me, “Hey Wendy, why do I need to visit the dentist for regular checkups?” Then I realised there are still many people out there who are not aware of the benefits of regular checkup and cleans. So, I decided to make a short video about it.
Regular dental checkups and cleans help you to keep your teeth and gum healthy. This is like doing regular services for your car. During the examination, the dentist checks for cavities and gum diseases. Plaque is a very sticky film of bacteria, which can harden to become tartar. That cannot be removed with just brushing every day. Only professionals can clean it off effectively. If tartar builds up for a long time, they can cause cavities and gum diseases.
During the examination, we also look at your tongue, throat, lymph node, and the overall oral skin for any sense of trouble. We also do an oral cancer screening for you. Oral cancer is a very serious disease, and if not diagnosed early, can progress quickly and may even become life-threatening to you.
Lastly, having regular checkups and cleans help you to save more money. By finding and fixing problems early, you can avoid the more extensive treatment later on. For example, it is cheaper to fix a small cavity with a filling than to neglect it for a couple of years and then have to replace it with an implant because the tooth has to be pulled out.
I hope this video has given you some insight on why it is important to have regular dental check-ups. If it has been a while since you had a check up, we would love to look after you.
