What Is The Cost Of Sleep Dentistry?
Hi, it’s Dr Wendy here from Oralux Dental. Today I just saw a new patient, Brian, for a general checkup and a clean. On the chair, Brian told me that he is very anxious being in the dental office. So we discussed options of making the treatment a more comfortable experience for him or commonly known as sedation dentistry. During the appointment he was asking me, what is sedation dentistry, and how much would it cost him? So I thought I’d take this opportunity and explain it with a video.
So the easiest and the cheapest way for managing anxiety is to have some anti-anxiety medications, which you take around one hour before the appointment. This is usually enough to calm most patients with mild to moderate anxieties, so they can sit through the treatment.
On the other hand, if you are super, super anxious about dentistry like Brian, then you may need IV sedation, which involves a qualified doctor to administer. It is also known as twilight sedation, as you are being put into a state that is neither unconscious nor fully awake. However, you will still be able to follow simple instructions from a loud voice command, and you are breathing on your own. Most of our patients describe the sedation procedure being the best sleep they have had. But you won’t have any memories of the procedure afterwards. It usually costs a little more, as a specially trained doctor is involved, who will monitor your vitals and provides that sedation. Their rate usually ranges from five to nine hundred dollars per hour.
As you can see, we have different options to look after different levels of anxiety and budget. So if it has been a while since you visited a dentist because of dental fear, we would love to look after you.
