What Is The Cost Of Dental Crown?
Hi, it’s Dr Wendy here from Oralux Dental. I just saw a new patient, Andrea from Crows Nest, for a broken tooth. She got a few quotes from several practices, and was wondering why the price varies so much between each practice? So I thought I’d make a short video explaining the price range of dental crowns, and what are the factors that contribute to the difference.
There are a few factors determining the cost of a crown, which usually ranges from fifteen hundred to twenty five hundred dollars.
The first thing to consider is the material used to make the crown. There are many, many types of material and each has its own pros and cons. A gold crown, for example, is often stronger and more durable and more resistant to fracture and wear. It is very strong at 0.5mm thickness, which means less tooth trimming, but may not look as natural. While porcelain crowns can be more aesthetically pleasing to match the colour of your surrounding teeth. Here at Oralux Dental, our experienced dentist will discuss the pros and cons of each option with you and choose the best material that best suits your needs.
The expertise and experience of the dentist also matters. An experienced dentist who has been practicing for over 10 years, who has done thousands of crowns, can achieve the same results more effectively, and less prone to mistakes, compared to a junior dentist who would have been out of uni for a couple of years, naturally, they may have less experience, and therefore, charge lower, but could potentially make more errors.
It is also important to know who is making the crown. Here at Oralux Dental, we only work with the best dental technicians in town, who will handcraft the crown for you so the colour, the fit and the shape of the crown will be meticulous and perfect for you.
And the last thing to consider is whether there are any additional procedures required. Sometimes we need to use a delicate laser machine to remove the excess gum so that we can ensure a better aesthetic result and also better prognosis for the tooth.
I hope this gives you a better understanding in regards to the price of a dental crown procedure and the factors that may influence your decision. If you have a cracked, fractured or broken tooth, we would love to look after you.
